Trusted Criminal Defence
ABOUT
Deanna Cristovao is a passionate and dedicated lawyer who defends individuals charged with criminal offences. She graduated Cum Laude from York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society, and obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Deanna believes that everyone charged with a criminal offence deserves a strong advocate and a fair process. No one should be judged based on an unproven criminal allegation. Deanna fights fearlessly to defend her clients and protect their rights, while guiding them through every step of the process.
Deanna’s strong passion for criminal law and justice started at a young age. In law school, she focused her studies on criminal law courses and litigation-intensive seminars. Following her first year of law school, she worked with three defence lawyers and gained first-hand knowledge of the criminal justice process.
In her second year, she was accepted into Osgoode’s Criminal Law Intensive Program under the guidance of the Honourable Justice Rondinelli and Alan Young, the Co-Founder and former Director of Osgoode's Innocence Project. During the program, Deanna worked with a reputable criminal defence firm, gaining considerable experience in the practical aspects of criminal defence, worked on a variety of cases and appeared regularly at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Following law school, Deanna completed her articles with a skilled and experienced criminal trial lawyer. She worked on numerous criminal matters ranging from theft and criminal harassment to sexual assault and first-degree murder. She successfully conducted trials and argued motions in the Ontario Court of Justice, and assisted on bail and sentencing matters. She is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association
